Terms of Service

Effective date: June 5, 2026

The short version: Folio is a tool for organizing your own receipts on your own device. Use it lawfully, keep your own backups, and remember it is an organizational aid, not tax or legal advice. Premium is billed through your Apple ID and can be cancelled anytime in your App Store settings.

1. Agreement

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and the developer of Folio ("we", "us") governing your use of the Folio app and this website (together, "the Service"). By downloading or using Folio, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. The Service

Folio lets you scan, organize, search, and export receipts. All processing and storage happens locally on your device, as described in our Privacy Policy. We may add, change, or remove features over time.

3. License

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Folio on Apple devices you own or control, in accordance with these Terms and Apple's App Store terms. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, reverse engineer, or create derivative works of the app except where the law expressly permits it.

4. Subscriptions and purchases

  • Folio Premium (weekly) — an auto-renewable subscription with a 3-day free trial, then $4.99 per week (or local equivalent).
  • Folio Premium (Lifetime) — a one-time purchase of $39.99 (or local equivalent), with no recurring charges.

Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase, or at the end of the free trial for the weekly plan. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel your subscription anytime in your App Store account settings; deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase. Prices may vary by region and may change for future billing periods; renewals at a changed price require your consent where Apple's rules provide for it. Refunds are handled by Apple under the App Store's refund policies.

5. Your data and your responsibility

Your receipts and everything you create in Folio are stored only on your device. That privacy comes with a trade-off: we cannot recover your data. You are responsible for maintaining your own device backups (for example via iCloud or computer backups) and for exporting any records you need to keep. Deleting the app permanently deletes your Folio data from the device.

6. Not professional advice

Folio is an organizational tool. Text recognition can make mistakes, and amounts, dates, categories, and deductible labels are aids, not authoritative records. Folio does not provide tax, accounting, financial, or legal advice. Always verify exported figures against your original receipts and consult a qualified professional for tax matters.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose, including fabricating records or committing fraud
  • Interfere with, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service
  • Use the Service in violation of Apple's App Store terms

8. Intellectual property

The app, this website, and all related names, logos, designs, and content are owned by us or our licensors and protected by intellectual-property laws. Your receipts and the content you create remain yours.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that text recognition will be accurate.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits, missed return windows, denied warranty claims, or tax outcomes arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the Service in the twelve months before the claim arose. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, and nothing affects your statutory consumer rights.

11. Apple

These Terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide support or maintenance for the app and is not responsible for addressing any claims relating to it. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

12. Termination

You can stop using Folio at any time by deleting the app. We may suspend or terminate access to the Service if you materially breach these Terms. Sections that by their nature should survive (including 8, 9, and 10) survive termination.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the updated Terms here and change the effective date above; material changes will be communicated in the app. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the country in which the developer is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where the mandatory consumer-protection laws of your country of residence apply.
